Final 3-D Form Front View

Final 3-D Form Side View
Project Statement
This project consisted of exploring the relationship between 2-D shapes and 3-D forms by transforming a previous 2-D shape of mine into a 3-D composition. I drew inspiration from a 2-D shape that I explored during the Shape Grammer Assignment in order to create a 3-D form in plan view. I took this plan view and turned it into 3-D sketches via orthographic drawing methods in order to construct a final 3-D form. I also created a template with instructions for the assembly of my 3-D form. One of the goals for my composition/ 3-D form was to create negative space by combining shapes.

Reflection
This project taught me a lot about the importance of precise measurements. Throughout the construction process, I learned very quickly that if I did not have perfect measurements, then I would have gaps in my form and the edges would not line up correctly. In fact, I struggled a lot with the creation of my original form template because of the lack of perfect measurements in my template. I probably created twenty to thirty rejected shapes in the process of trying to get the measurements right and perfect my craft for the final form and structure. This process was more than frustrating for me, but I pushed through my frustrations. My determination to get my template to work is the outcome that I am most proud of. I explored negative space by combining forms, and it was interesting to think about creating negative space in an unconventional way. I see areas that I can improve upon, mainly in the category of craft. Craft is something that I struggled with throughout all of the projects; however, with each project, I am learning new techniques that help me improve.
