Project Statement
This project consisted of constructing a composition using paper layering techniques to emphasize a sense of depth and space. One of my goals for this project was to create a composition that communicated something I liked. I chose my love of the ocean. My intention for my composition was to create a sea turtle scene that created a sense of depth by using greyscale card stock. I used the principles and elements of movement and line to help create a dynamic composition.

Reflection
I learned about creating a sense of depth in this project. One aspect of my design that I feel like I could have explored more was the spacing of my piece. I wish I would have explored putting more space by the turtle to create the idea of the vastness of the ocean and the ability to go anywhere. This feeling showed me that I probably should have created a few more iterations for my composition. But, with that being said, I feel as if I did find a balance in my current placement of the turtle and waves. I again struggled with my craft, not in the sense of having crooked lines, but I had a hard time making sure that my layers lined up together. I knew that with the use of machine cutting that any flaws in sticking my layers together would be highlighted. I can see myself understanding how to use the elements and principles in my designs better, which means I’m learning and growing which makes me happy and proud.
