My final isometric word poster composition
Project Statement
This project consisted of exploring isometric letter construction to construct a poster that illustrates the definition of an invented word. My goal for this project was to creatively apply my knowledge of the elements and principles of design, in combination with my new knowledge of isometric perspective, to create a cohesive composition. I created the word “phisoner,” which is constructed from the words phone and prisoner. I created a prison scene with my isometric word “trapped” inside a chained-down, charging phone.

Reflection
I learned about isometric perspective throughout this project. I found that isometric perspective follows a strict axis, and if it is not followed, then the perspective will be off. I struggled with adding proper shadows to my composition. While designing my piece, I struggled with the decision to include shadows that appeared incorrect or to exclude them. I was and still am very new to drawing techniques, and we had not discussed in-depth about adding value to make 2-D shapes look 3-D. I decided that the improper use of shadows would have taken away from my overall composition, so I made the decision to leave them out. I am overall very proud of my composition; I think I tackled isometric forms pretty well, as well as created a scene that fit with my new word. This project was exciting for me because it was the first one where we were able to create graphics, which is something that I am super interested in and excited to get into and learn more about.
