Visuals
Reflection
In this class we explored some of the more tangible aspects of visual communication design. We focused on four areas of the design field: Print, Environmental Graphics and Way Finding, Video Production and User Experience Design. We were given the opportunity to meet with and interact with design professionals working in each of those four areas. Through our discussions with these professionals, we will learned about their process and the materials that they have to consider when designing. In the book above, I complied my learning and reflections about each of our guest speakers and field trips.
I learned so much from this class through our lectures, guest speakers, and field trips. Before this class started I was confused as to why I, someone whose in a visual design major, had to take a materials class. Before I thought the extent of the materials I’d be working with was paper. I had no idea so much thought and energy went into choosing materials as a visual designer.
I had no idea environmental design existed before this class, I thought that environmental design was just designing with the experimental in mind (like recycling materials, etc.). However, now I understand that environmental design is interior and exterior spaces that become a physical embodiment of the brand. Environmental design is something I could see myself pursuing, just like a lot of the other areas we covered this semester.
Throughout the semester, I learned that visual design is a lot more complex than I thought it was. There are so many more ways to get involved within this field, than I ever imaged. I am excited to use my new knowledge to continue to learn about and explore the field of visual design.
