Project Statement
This project consisted of using two of the three basic shapes (squares, circles, and equal-lateral triangles) in combination with a singular element and principle of design in order to compositionally represent a descriptive state. In my composition, I focused on activating the design principle of movement in order to convey a rotational feeling. In order to do this, I used squares and triangles to create both positive and negative shapes that were designed in a way that created this rotating effect. My composition was created in a black and white color scheme both digitally and physically. The positioning of the triangles around the square and the black and white color scheme helped create implied lines in my composition that created the rotational feeling.

Reflection
This project taught me the importance of the elements and principles of design. I learned that even the tiniest of changes had a very impactful effect on my composition. I learned that effective designs are possible when the elements and principles of design are used correctly. I struggled at the beginning of this project with creating a design that utilized negative space; however, this struggle taught me the importance of iterations in design. With further exploration and iterations, I was able to create a composition that effectively activated the design principle of movement (through the use of squares, triangles, and negative space) that evoked a rotational feeling. I learned that craft is a major component in physical design, and it is important to take the extra time to perfect the craft. Overall, I was very pleased with the outcome of my composition. I feel I accomplished the goals of the assignment while learning a great deal about the elements and principles of design, the importance of iterating in the design process, and craft in physical designing.
